Sen. Bill Hagerty & Rep. Mark Green make stop in Memphis

The two were in Shelby County Tuesday to meet with Memphis Police and speak at the Memphis Rotary Club.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — U.S. Tennessee Senator Bill Hagerty and Representative Mark Green made a stop in Shelby County Tuesday to meet with Memphis Police and speak at the Memphis Rotary Club.

They also talked to farmers in Dyersburg, Tennessee, who are battling difficulties with supply chain issues and labor shortages.

“If you think about the level of inflation, the price of gas, the impact on everyone's pocketbook right now - what we've been talking about today in Memphis, the fentanyl crisis, the number one killer between young people between the ages of 18 and 45 is drug overdoses. Most of it, fentanyl, coming across the southern border that has completely collapsed. That's what we should be focusing on right now, are the issues that confront us as a nation,” said Hagerty.

At the police chief’s meeting, Hagerty said he received valuable insight about the drug overdose crisis in Memphis, and what the city is doing to combat it.
