A Shelby County grand jury has indicted a man in the death of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son. Marterrius Hite, 23, is charged with murder, child neglect, and child abuse.
July 13, 2015, police were called to Hite’s apartment in the 4100 block of Woodbranch Court near East Raines and I-55. Hite told investigators he found 2-year-old Deandre Davis floating in the bathtub, and not breathing. However, the medical examiner says the boy died from trauma to his head and stomach, which caused massive internal injuries.
Thursday, February 4, 2016, the grand jury indicted Hite on charges of first-degree murder in the perpetration of aggravated child abuse, first-degree murder in the perpetration of aggravated child neglect, aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect.
