‘Shame on you’ / Judge admonishes state officials for ignoring her ruling on absentee ballots

Tennessee election officials face Friday deadline to send absentee ballots to all Tennessee voters so they can mail-in ballots during pandemic for August primary

MEMPHIS, Tennessee —

In Thursday's Ransom Note: shame on you.

Those are the words of a chancery court judge in Nashville today because the state has ignored her ruling to send absentee ballots to all Tennessee voters so they can mail-in ballots during the pandemic for the August primary. The judge gave the state until noon Friday to comply.

You've heard me outline the many reasons why it makes sense. How voter fraud actually occurs less than mail-in voting when you look at the states that already have it, although either way voter fraud has never been a significant number.

But more than that, 29 states allow absentee voting without having to give any reason at all. I mean it's your vote. You shouldn't have to give a reason to vote absentee.

Then there's Tennessee, one of only six states where this COVID-19 pandemic cannot be given as a reason to vote absentee.

Let's put the politics aside, listen to the facts, and do what's right for voters. The state has until noon Friday to decide. We'll keep you posted.
