Redbirds win series but fall 6-2 to the Knights in Game 3

The Memphis Redbirds lose their first game of the season with a 6-2 loss to the Charlotte Knights.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Redbirds close out opening weekend with a 6-2 loss to the Charlotte Knights but win the series 2-1.

Charlotte started off the game with a bang, scoring three runs on three hits, two errors and a sac fly.

The Redbirds got back into it in the fifth. With loaded bases, Mike Antico grounds into a force out and Nick Raposo scored. Then with two on, José Fermín grounds out and Nick Dunn ran home.

Still, that would be the only two runs the Redbirds would score. They failed to record a base hit with runners in scoring positions in the game. Right fielder Matt Koperniak recorded his first two hits of the season in the loss and they were just two of the Redbirds three hits.

The Memphis Redbirds hit the road on Tuesday for a six-game series against Indianapolis. They return to AutoZone Park on Tuesday, April 9 to play a six-game series against Nashville Sounds (Triple-A, Milwaukee Brewers).
