MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Birmingham Stallions weren't horsing around on Saturday night, stomping all over the Memphis Showboats 33-14.
Birmingham scored on their opening offensive drive off a Adrian Martinez six-yard pass to Jace Sternberger. The Showboats tied it up at six thanks to a Case Cookus dart to Vinny Papale.
But that would be the only touchdown the Showboats would score all game. Marking the second-straight week Memphis has only scored one touchdown.
The Showboats still looked in the game at halftime trailing 18-12 but the Stallions took control, outgaining the Showboats 424 to 212 and outscoring them 15-2 in the final two frames.
Martinez accounted for 378 yards of offense for the Stallions, passing for 334 and rushing for a team-high 44.
Cookus was 15-of-22 for 140 yards for Memphis, while Troy Williams came on in relief and finished 11-of-19 for 100 yards.
Kyhava Tezino led the way for the Stallions’ defense with nine tackles and one sack. The Showboats’ Jordan Ferguson tallied a game-best 10 tackles and a sack.
The loss marks the second-straight for the Showboats, they are back in action again Saturday, April 20 at the St. Louis Battlehawks.
