MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Transfer guard Tyrese Hunter is bringing his talents to the 901. Hunter announced his commitment to the University of Memphis basketball program, Monday, on his Instagram account.

Hunter, formerly of the University of Texas and Iowa State, is a dynamic guard. He averaged 11.1 points, 4.1 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game for the Longhorns in 2023-24. Texas made it to the second round of the NCAA  Tournament before being beaten by Tennessee.

Hunter was also a highly sought after guard after his 2022 season with Iowa State and reportedly had garnered interest from Memphis then as well.

The Racine, Wisconsin native is the latest addition to a quickly growing roster of players for Penny Hardaway. The Tigers have confirmed commitments from PJ Haggerty, Dain Dainja and Colby Rogers to join returning senior forward Nicholar Jourdain.

Hunter's addition, paired up with Haggerty, helps to replace the scoring void left by David Jones who announced Saturday that he was entering the NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility. A return to Memphis cannot be ruled out.
