MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – “I think Ryan Silverfield is a natural for this position. He has been here four years he learned the Norvell way he also has the Silverfield way we are not hiring another Mike Norvell we are hiring a Ryan Silverfield,” said Dana Capocaccia, football booster.

Capocaccia is excited Ryan Silverfield is the new head coach. “National searches are good sometimes, but when the continuity is necessary to continue one process that’s already working real well, sometimes you need to look right in front of your face because that’s your best option.”

At the Tiger Bookstore, fans and alumni also chimed in and most are thrilled.

“I think it’s the people’s choice. I think it’s the people within the football program’s choice. The playerS, the recruits, the people who are in the know, and I think it’s an excellent hire,” said Jeremy Whitten.

“I think it’s a good pick, I really do, I think he is a Memphis man through, and they and I think he is going to do a great job,” said Glen Coyle.

“Keep the continuity, there that’s with all sports. Continuity is important,” said Jason Jacobi.

Some fans said it was important to have a head coach in place before the Cotton Bowl those following the situation say.

“More important than the Cotton Bowl. It’s important to have this announcement quickly so we secure the recruits that are lined up to sign with us during the early signing period which is next week, said Capocaccia. “The city is going to love Ryan Silverfield. He is a genuine guy. He has paid his dues. He articulate, He has a big smile on his face and is a friend to all.”

At a news conference Sunday when Silverfield was named the interim head coach he made it clear he wanted the job and wanted to stay in Memphis for the long term.

“It makes me feel good because maybe he will stay around for a lot of years,” said Judy Coburn.
