Showboats Succumb to Michigan Panthers, Extend Losing Streak to Four Games

Despite Strong Performance from Williams, Turnovers Haunt Showboats in 35-18 Defeat

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Despite a valiant comeback effort led by quarterback Troy Williams, the Memphis Showboats were unable to overcome a relentless Michigan Panthers onslaught, falling 35-18 at home and extending their losing streak to four consecutive games in the UFL.

Michigan's Wes Hills dominated the ground game, amassing 160 yards and scoring five touchdowns against the struggling Memphis defense.

Despite the absence of quarterback Case Cookus, Troy Williams delivered a commendable performance for the Showboats, throwing for 248 yards, three touchdowns, and enduring two interceptions.

Memphis found themselves trailing by 19 points in the first half but staged a comeback attempt, only to be thwarted by turnovers.

The opening drive saw Williams stripped of the ball, with Breeland Speaks recovering for Michigan, leading to a two-yard touchdown run by Hills.

The Panthers extended their lead to 13 with a 10-play, 70-yard touchdown drive on their subsequent possession, further capitalizing on Memphis turnovers.

Jaire Alexander intercepted Williams early in the second quarter, setting up another Michigan scoring opportunity.

Despite Memphis' efforts to close the gap, including an 82-yard touchdown pass from Williams to Daewood Davis, Michigan maintained control.

Danny Etling's rushing touchdown at the start of the second half dampened Memphis' hopes further.

A third-quarter fumble recovery on the Panthers' seven-yard line allowed Memphis to briefly narrow the margin, as Williams connected with Jonathan Adams for a touchdown.

However, Michigan responded promptly, maintaining their lead throughout the game.

Memphis attempted to mount a late-game comeback but fell short, as Williams was intercepted by Kai Nacua, sealing the Panthers' victory.

The loss drops the Showboats to a 1-4 record for the season, positioning them fourth in the USFL division standings.

Next up, Memphis will take on the Birmingham Stallions at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium on Saturday, May 4, with kickoff scheduled for 11 A.M.
