Black ice, several crashes lead to road closures on Walnut Grove Road

Several lanes of Walnut Grove Road are closed near the Humphreys Blvd. overpass.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Portions of Walnut Grove Road are closed this morning near Baptist East Hospital due to black ice and several crashes.

Memphis Police said about 11 accidents have occurred overnight and this morning near Walnut Grove and Humphreys Boulevard, not far from Christian Brothers High School. No serious injuries have been reported.

Memphis Police are closing lanes of Walnut Grove Road and traffic is being detoured off to Humphreys Blvd. Drivers can use Interstate 40 or Poplar Ave. as alternate routes.

Police also closed the Jackson Avenue and National Street area due to ice. 

Traffic has also slowed on the North Germantown Parkway overpass at I-40 due to black ice. Police worked a scene there as well. 

The Collierville Police Department said they have also received reports stating that the overpasses on Highway 385 are iced over. The department is advising caution for drivers. 

After several hours of rain on Monday, temperatures fell overnight which led to some patches of ice on roadways. Drivers are advised to use caution and slow down on their morning commute.
