Opinion | Two years from now, downtown Memphis could be much different | Richard Ransom

Richard Ransom explains why he thinks two years from now, downtown Memphis could be much different with some planned improvements.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Is downtown Memphis ready for a $10 million adventure park, complete with zip lines and axe throwing

A Chicago developer thinks so, and apparently, most on Memphis City Council do, too.

A group called The Forge is behind the plans and has been working on them for a couple of years.

A study on what's best for the Mud Island River Park is expected in the next 60 days or so, but you can count me in on the idea.

First, this is actually a project where the developer isn't asking for any tax breaks, just a 30-year lease. Also, it would help complete a transformation that would make downtown even more family-friendly, especially once Tom Lee Park is finished.

Between that, a renovated convention center, new hotels, and St. Jude's plans for downtown, it could be a much different place two years from now.

I'd love to hear what you think. Join the conversation by email, Facebook or Twitter.
