MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Federal Aviation Administration is giving more than $64 million in grants to Memphis International Airport for the construction of a deicing pad and improvements to the terminal building.

The FAA said the funding comes from $273 million in safety and infrastructure grants awarded to airports in 41 states, the District of Columbia and outlying territories.

Memphis International is home to shipping giant FedEx Corp's world hub and is one of the world's busiest cargo airports.

The airport is undergoing a project to modernize and consolidate airline and retail operations at one of its concourses.

The FAA also awarded more than $166,000 to Tennessee for non-primary airports.
