NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Probation and parole officers across Tennessee will take home a bigger paycheck starting July 1, according to the Department of Correction.

Every staff member in the probation and parole fields will get at least a 7.5% increase to their current salary, according to a release from officials. The raise is not the only initiative from the TDOC to increase employees' take-home pay.

They also began offering a $5,000 hiring bonus for new correctional officers in April, as well as a $4,000 retention bonus for current correctional officers. The department also offers a $1,000 bonus for any current TDOC employees who recruit a new correctional officer, according to officials.

The pay raise was originally proposed in 2019, but the COVID-19 pandemic caused delays in getting it approved and started.

“Our probation and parole staff supervise more than 70,000 people in our communities," said Commissioner Tony Parker. "Each day, they carry out our mission of effective community supervision by ensuring those under our correctional control are compliant with following directives. These raises are worthy of the work they do each day to make Tennessee a safer place to live and raise a family.”
