Arkansas State Police investigating 'improper' use of force incident that led to the firing of 4 Helena-West Helena officers

The Arkansas State Police said they're investigating an incident from Dec. 19, 2023, and the police department is requesting the four officers be de-certified.

HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark. — The Arkansas State Police are investigating an incident from December, 2023, that led to the firing of four Helena-West Helena Police officers over "improper" use of force, the agency announced Friday.

The police department later requested Arkansas' Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training to de-certify them as police officers, meaning they wouldn't be able to take a job in law enforcement in the state.

State Police said they have assigned special agents to the case and will present their findings to prosecuting attorneys.

We're working to learn more about the specifics of this incident, and whether the former officers face any criminal charges. We've reached out to the Helena-West Helena Police Department for comment.
