MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police said two teens have been arrested in a string of car break-ins after being caught in a stolen car.
MPD said on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, officers with the Organized Crime Unit Auto Theft Task Force, Appling Farms Task Force, and Bartlett Task Force spotted a stolen black KIA Forte near New Allen and Scenic Highway. Investigators said the car had been stolen May 5.
Police said two boys, ages 17 and 15, who were in the KIA were taken into custody.
Investigators said they linked the two teens to several car break-ins.
MPD said the unnamed 17-year-old was charged with auto theft $10,000-$60,000, 42 counts of motor vehicle burglary, evading arrest on foot, seven counts of theft of property $1,000 or less, two counts of attempted auto burglary, possession of burglary tools, theft of property $2,500-$10,000, two counts of firearm theft, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
They said the unnamed 15-year-old was charged with auto theft $10,000-$60,000, evading arrest on foot, and intentionally evading arrest in an auto.
