Off-duty Memphis Police officer relieved of duty with pay after arrest for DUI in Arkansas

MPD said they received a call from police in Arkansas about 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, that Garry Arnold was in custody for DUI.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police confirmed to ABC24 an off-duty MPD officer was arrested in Arkansas the night before Thanksgiving for driving under the influence.

MPD said they received a call from police in Arkansas about 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, that Garry Arnold was in custody for DUI. Records show Arnold was booked into the Crittenden County jail about 11 p.m. and released from the jail about 1:15 a.m.

Memphis Police said investigators were sent to Arkansas, and Arnold was relieved of his duties with pay as an internal investigation begins to address policy violations.

MPD said Arnold joined the department in 2017 as part of the Uniform Patrol.

“The actions of this off-duty officer do not reflect the hard work and values of officers of the Memphis Police Department, who strive tirelessly to make a positive contribution to our communities,” said a statement from MPD.
