Remembering Kacie Woody 10 years later

As the 10-year anniversary of Kacie Woody's death approaches her family and friends are hosting a memorial celebration at the Greenbrier football field.

GREENBRIER, Ark. (KTHV) -- The internet is full of great information and helpful tools, but it can also be a dangerous place. It's where 13-year-old Kacie Woody met her killer.

As the 10-year anniversary of Kacie Woody's death approaches, her family and friends are hosting a memorial celebration Dec. 3 at the Greenbrier High School football field. They plan to release paper lanterns to light up the sky in her honor.

"She was outgoing, and funny, she could always cheer you up if you were sad," says Kacie's friend Jessica Bradford.

"She was the friendliest person that I've ever met, you didn't meet anyone that didn't like her," says another friend Samantha Mann.

Mann and Bradford are working together to honor the one that introduced them. They are working on a tribute to Kacie Woody, their grade school friend they lost nearly 10 years ago.

"She was really young and the internet was what we all resorted, too." Bradford says Woody met her killer David Fuller online in a Christian chat room. According to police, Fuller, 47, came all the way from California to kidnap Woody.

After a day of searching, police found both their bodies in a storage unit near Conway. Police believe Fuller shot Woody, and then himself.

"It's nice to know that Kacie is still remembered in the community and hopefully with this celebration it will bring some awareness to other young children and educate them on the dangers of the internet," says her father Ricky Woody, a sergeant for the Greenbrier Police Department.

If you would like to help them you can purchase a lantern for a dollar, you can mail it to Jessica Bradford at the Greenbrier Police Department. You may also leave money at the department. Any money left over from the event will go to help kids stay safe while on the internet.
