MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A round of showers and thunderstorms will bring high wind gusts to the Memphis area this afternoon and evening.

Most of the day will be dry, but rain and some thunderstorms will begin to develop in Eastern Arkansas by 4 p.m.

Rain and storms will cross the Mississippi River into Memphis during the evening commute and into dinnertime, especially between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Storms will then continue east, moving into Western Tennessee and Northern Mississippi between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Storms will clear the entire area by Midnight.

The biggest concern with this batch of storms will be the wind. Gusts could be as high as 50 or 60 mph, which could lead to power outages and broken limbs. Be sure to charge cell phones today and bring in or secure any outdoor items that could blow around.
