MPD: 3 teens charged in connection with nearly two dozen crimes, including carjacking and robbery, since mid-December

Memphis Police said the teens, two of whom each face a long list of charges, have all been arrested.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 16-year-old and a 14-year-old boy face a long list of charges after being arrested in connection with nearly two dozen crimes across Memphis since mid-December 2023. A 15-year-old is also charged in at least one of the crimes.

According to Memphis Police, the unidentified 14-year-old was arrested Jan. 5, 2024, and officers found a gun at the time of his arrest. He faces charges of:

  • Carjacking (8 counts)
  • Employment of a Firearm during the Commission of a Dangerous Felony (10 counts)
  • Attempted Carjacking, Aggravated Robbery (11 counts)
  • Aggravated Assault (7 counts)
  • Attempted Aggravated Robbery (5 counts)
  • Evading Arrest in Auto (2 counts)
  • Theft of Property to wit: Auto $10,000-$60,000
  • Curfew Violation (3 counts).

MPD said the unidentified 16-year-old was arrested Jan. 9 on warrants for carjacking, aggravated robbery, and weapons charges. Investigators said he was linked to several additional crimes and now faces the following charges: 

  • Carjacking (3 counts)
  • Employment of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony (5 counts)
  • Aggravated Robbery (7 counts), 
  • Attempted Carjacking (2 counts)
  • Attempted Theft of Property $2,500-$10,000
  • Curfew (3 counts).

MPD said an unidentified 15-year-old was charged on Jan. 9 in one of the carjackings. They said at the time he was identified as a suspect, he was in the Youth Justice and Education Center on another charge. MPD added charges of carjacking and employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.

Here’s a look at the crimes in which MPD investigators said the boys were involved, and which are charged in each crime.

Dec. 17

  • 9:27 p.m. – (14-year-old suspect) Man walking to his Ford Escape in the 3900 block of Park Ave. was robbed by three armed males. They hit him in the head with gun and took the vehicle.

Dec. 21:

  • 7:05 p.m. – (14-year-old suspect) Woman in the 900 block of Raymond St. was approached by two makes as she was getting out of her Chevrolet Cruz. One pointed a gun and her and they took the car.

Dec. 22:

  • 6:45 p.m. – (14-year-old suspect) Man walking to his vehicle in 1400 block of Getwell Rd. was robbed by two armed males who took his wallet.
  • 9:57 p.m. – (14-year-old suspect) Man pumping gas in the 3900 block of Elvis Presley Blvd. was approached by an armed male who took his Mercedes Benz and then took off with two other suspects who got out of a Chevrolet Cruz.

Dec. 24:

  • 10:46 a.m. – (14-year-old & 15 year-old suspects) Woman was in het Audi A3 in the 1200 block of Getwell Rd. when three males approached. One had a gun and demanded her car, and then was followed by a Mercedes Benz.
  • 11:18 a.m. – (14-year-old suspect) Victim approached by armed males in the 3200 block of Kimball Avenue. They demanded the car keys but took off in a Mercedes Benz without taking the victim’s vehicle.
  • 5:54 p.m. – (14-year-old suspect) Three armed males tried to rob customers inside a store in the 1200 block of Getwell Rd. but took off without any property. 
  • 5:56 p.m. – (14-year-old suspect) Three males robbed a man in the 1400 block of Getwell Rd., taking cash and his Toyota Corolla.

Robbery Suspects Dollar Tree 1201 Getwell Road Report #2312029353ME MEMPHIS, TN – On December 24, 2023, at approximately 12:45 p.m., officers responded to a carjacking at 1201 Getwell Road at Dollar Tree. Officers were advised that the victim parked her car when three unknown armed male suspects approached her. They demanded the keys to her black Audi A3. The suspects took the victim’s vehicle and fled westbound on Rhodes, followed by a gold Mercedes that was taken in a carjacking. At 5:36 p.m., the same suspects came back to the Dollar Tree and attempted to rob two victims in the store at gunpoint. The males fled the store in an unknown direction. Suspect #1 was a dark-skinned Black male wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. He was armed with an unknown firearm. Suspect #2 was a dark-skinned Black male wearing a turquoise hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and high tops tennis shoes. Suspect #3 was a light-skinned Black male wearing a green Bart Simpson hooded sweatshirt, black jeans, and high-top tennis shoes. Dec. 26:

  • 11:15 p.m. – (14-year-old & 16-year-old suspects) Two males approached man walking to his car in the 3000 block of Lamar Ave. asking for money. The victim was hit in the head with a gun by one of the suspects and they took off without his car.
  • 11:39 p.m. – (14-year-old & 16-year-old suspects) A woman pumping gas in the 2900 block of Lamar Ave. was approached by an armed man who demanded her keys and took her Nissan Maxima.

Dec. 28:

  • 1:56 a.m. – (14-year-old & 16-year-old suspects) Two males, one armed with a gun, approached a man walking to his vehicle in the 2100 block of Lamar Ave., demanding his keys. A shot was fired but no one was injured, and the suspects took off in a Nissan Maxima followed by two females.

Dec. 30:

  • 7:50 p.m. – (14-year-old & 16-year-old suspects) Two men ran up on a woman who was getting out of her car in the 2900 block of Semmes St. They pointed a gun and her and demanded her keys, then took off in her Chevrolet Malibu.

Dec. 31:

  • 3:01 p.m. – (14-year-old & 16-year-old suspects) Man was walking to his truck in the 3900 block of Rhodes Ave. when he was almost hit by car. Two armed males got out and demanded the Dodge Ram, striking the victim in the face. They were unsuccessful in taking the truck.
  • 4:00 p.m. – (14-year-old & 16-year-old suspects) Man was robbed by armed male while pumping gas in the 2900 block of South Perkins Rd. Suspect left in a black sedan.
  • 4:25 p.m. – (14-year-old suspect) Woman was pumping gas at Lamar Ave. and Pendleton St. when an armed male approached and demanded her car, then took off with it.

Jan. 1:

  • 3:54 p.m. –  (14-year-old & 16-year-old suspects) Woman was loading groceries in the 6600 block of Lamar Ave. when an armed male demanded her purse and phone, then took off in a black sedan.

Jan. 3:

  • 2:28 p.m. – (14-year-old & 16-year-old suspects) Man standing at his car in the 2000 block of Labelle St. was approached by armed male who demanded his keys, then took off in the victim’s Mercedes Benz.
  • 3:29 p.m. – (14-year-old suspect) Victim was getting out of their car in the 6600 block of Winchester Rd. when an armed male demanded their purse, then took off in a white sedan.
  • 3:45 p.m. – (14-year-old & 16-year-old suspects) Victims were approached by an armed male in the 4700 block of Knight Arnold Rd., who demanded their wallets then took off in a white Mercedes Benz.
  • 3:59 p.m. – (14-year-old suspect) Victim was getting into his car in the 5300 block of Winchester Rd. when a white Mercedes Benz pulled up and an armed male got out and demanded money, then took off.
