Man charged with murder of Binghampton teen on Thanksgiving remains out of jail without bond as case heads to grand jury

Police responded to the shooting Thursday around 2:15 a.m. in the 300 block of Vandalia Street.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Shelby County Grand jury will hear the case against one of the two people facing a murder charge after a 15-year-old boy was shot to death early Thanksgiving morning in Binghampton. In the meantime, 18-year-old Edio (Edion) White remains out of jail after being released on his own recognizance.

Memphis Police said White and a 15-year-old juvenile were charged with first-degree murder during the perpetration of robbery, criminal attempt especially aggravated robbery, and unlawful possession of a weapon. According to court records, White was released on his own recognizance (ROR) following a court hearing on Nov. 27, 2023.

In a court hearing Dec. 4, the judge said White would remain out of jail since he is following all the conditions previously set.

The Memphis Police Department (MPD) responded to the shooting Thursday, Nov. 23, around 2:15 a.m. in the 300 block of Vandalia Street, where officers found a teen who had been shot in the head. He was pronounced dead.

According to an affidavit, video footage showed a silver Hyundai Sonata stop in front of the home of the teen, who came out and appeared to pass firearms back and forth with the car's occupants.

A suspect inside the car then appeared to abruptly grab a weapon from the teen, and they began to struggle. Another suspect in the car then shot the teen, who immediately fell, the affidavit said. The suspects then drove away.

Investigators later located one of the suspects, the 15-year-old juvenile, with help from the murdered teen's text communication history on his phone. The 15-year-old suspect confessed to shooting the teen and named White as the driver of the Hyundai Sonata, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit said White admitted to being the driver, knowing the 15-year-old suspect was planning to rob the teen of his pistol. The 18-year-old also said his pistol was used to kill the teen, according to police.

Originally, this story stated the victim was a man, but MPD later confirmed that he was a teen.
