Man arrested for murder of U of M nursing student who went missing two days before his graduation

Vincent Paterson, 22, was arrested Friday, Jan. 6. He is accused of murdering 25-year-old Barshay Wilson, and he has been charged with first degree murder.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An arrest has been made for the murder of of 25-year-old University of Memphis nursing student Barshay Wilson, who was found dead one day after missing his graduation ceremony.

According to Shelby County Jail, Vincent Patterson, 22, was arrested Friday, Jan. 6. 

Patterson has been charged with two counts of first degree murder, especially aggravated robbery and tampering with evidence.

Memphis Police department confirmed Wednesday, Dec. 14 that the body that was found on a highway in Arlington was the missing nursing student. 

MPD said Wilson's body was found at 11150 Hwy 70 at 3:50 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12. 

According to the affidavit, MPD responded to a missing persons call on Saturday, Dec. 10. Officers were told that Wilson was last seen late Friday night leading into Saturday after walking outside to take a phone call. 

The affidavit said that Shelby County Sheriff's Office also responded to a fire call at 11150 Hwy 70 in Arlington a little over an hour after Wilson was said to have gone missing. 

At the scene of the fire, sheriff's located a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro. Officers said the Camaro was on fire when they made the scene. The affidavit said the car was impounded after the fire was put out. 

Wilson's I.D. was also located at the scene with the Camaro. The Camaro is said to belong to another person of interest in the murder, the affidavit said

The affidavit said that when MPD and investigators returned to the scene on December 12, they found Wilson's body 75 yards away from where the burning Camaro was located two days before. 

MPD said Wilson was found with multiple gunshot wounds. 

Wilson went missing just two days before his graduation from University of Memphis' nursing program.
