MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man faces more than 30 counts of attempted murder in connection with several shootings at the same apartment complex south of Memphis International Airport in the last couple of months.

Cheyenne Meadows was arrested early the morning of Monday, January 10, 2022, after police said he shot up several apartments, then fired at officers while trying to get away.

Memphis Police officers responded to a shots-fired call at the Highland Meadows Apartments in the 5000 block of Airways Blvd. about 3:00 a.m. Monday. Two responding officers said they saw Cheyenne Meadows sitting in a pick-up truck at the scene, and when Meadows saw them, they said he started shooting at them and took off. The officers were not hit.

According to the affidavit, other officers spotted Meadows’ truck nearby and stopped him. They said they found a rifle and spent shell casings in the cab. Meadows was arrested.

Back at the apartment complex, officers found shots had been fired at several of the apartments, endangering at least 13 people, two of whom were children.

According to the police affidavit, Meadows said he did not shoot at the apartments, and claimed the spent casings were from shooting at a fox earlier that morning.

In that shooting, Meadows faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder, 15 counts of attempted second-degree murder, and possession of a firearm during commission of a felony.

Previous incidents at same complex

Investigators said they found Meadows was also accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s place at the Highland Meadows Apartments a week earlier, and pointing a gun at her and another man.

According to the affidavit, when questioned a second time, Meadows admitted to three other shootings at the same complex in December. They said he admitted to shooting at two other apartments about 2:00 a.m. on December 20, 2021, injuring a 6-year-old girl and endangering at least ten others.

Investigators said Meadows also admitted to shooting at apartments about 1:30 a.m. December 22, 2021, which endangered five people, including his ex.

And investigators said Meadows confessed to shooting at another apartment at the complex about 10:40 p.m. December 30, 2021, endangering at least one other person.

In those shooting incidents, Meadows faces 16 counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts each of aggravated assault and aggravated burglary, and four counts of employing a weapon during the commission of a dangerous felony.
