MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Drivers and walkers in Downtown Memphis might find their way blocked for the next month as construction begins on a new pedestrian bridge.

The City of Memphis said South Front St. between Union Ave. and Beale St. and Peabody Place between South Front. St. and South Main St. are closed to traffic. Construction has begun on a new elevated walkway connecting the Downtown Mobility Center at 60 Beale St. to the AutoZone building at 123 S. Front St.

Drivers and pedestrians who normally use South Front St. and Peabody Place will need to find an alternate route. The closure is expected to last until Feb. 28, 2024.

Detours:

  • For northbound Front Street traffic:
    • Use Beale Street, South Main Street, Peabody Place, B.B. King Boulevard, and Union Avenue.
  • For southbound Front Street traffic:
    • Use of Union Avenue, South Second Street, and Beale Street.
